A “Wood Pressed” top — the candle is molded from a pressing of split maple firewood. Summers are for splitting, Fall for stacking, and Winter for hauling firewood— so for us, this texture is very nostalgic and true to home, especially beneath a flame.
The ceramic container is cast by hand. It’s beautiful warm color is accomplished using earth-found mineral pigments. The container is not painted, but simply sealed using a mixture of earth safe seal and oil.

This 4.5" Morel Mushroom candle is not carved, but cast from a real Michigan morel in incredibly rendered detail.

MORRISMADE goods are designed to be used, to age, and to be used and age well.
Each item is handmade by the Morris family in Northern Michigan. We believe in the beauty of working with our hands and committing craftsmanship to items that can be held, appreciated and utilized.
The designs and materials are sourced from the community and land around us. We are drawn to materials from the earth— wood, wax, cotton, oil, metal and stone — and a majority of our products are completely from-the-earth and biodegradable.
This is simply our best work and how we want to run our business.

Beeswax is simply that— nothing else is added. The material itself is so incredibly useful, and the natural scent so pleasing, that for there’s no temptation to add any modifiers or scents.

Beeswax is like wine, or coffee, in the way that every region and season produces a unique product. The color and fragrance of the beeswax itself will vary greatly depending on what flowers the bees are pollinating. We’ve found farms who’s bees consistently produce our favorite waxes. And have the privilege of supporting these farmers who care for these bees.

Beeswax is a sustainable resource. It comes from nature, and the best wax comes from the healthiest bees. So supporting our favorite bee farmers directly supports the bees that are happily pollinating the orchards, queen’s laced fields, and flowering gardens of Leelanau and Benzie county.

Beeswax candles are understood to clean the air of spaces where they are kept and burned. They burn at the same light spectrum of sunlight. Additionally, beeswax has been understood to release N-ions, which are known to be present around thunderstorms and crashing ocean waves and studies suggest may support mental and cognitive well being (focus, clarity, calm, optimism).
Natural beeswax is safe for any use and consumption, from lip balms and health use to food use and cutting board conditioning. We love beeswax around here.
